Being In Prison Isn’t Supposed to Be a Cakewalk

But it doesn’t have to be a nightmare, either

I’m well aware there are people in prison who deserve to be here. Trust me, I’m surrounded by a number of them every single day — some of which, get to walk out of the gates at the end of the day, and some who are housed with me. I just so happen not to be one of them, in case you’re new here.

Regardless, prison doesn’t have to be the shit show that it is. Those who run things in some cases intentionally make things more difficult just because they can. It’s like a game to them. Some COs seem to enjoy seeing inmates frustrated by the system that’s set up to bring them down, and adding to it on a daily basis. They’ll do things like mess with your mail, not pop your door when you have an appointment, ignore you when you press your call button, and just generally not do their jobs.

Unlike in the real world, when you miss a doctor or dentist appointment, you can’t easily reschedule. First of all, you’re still charged a fee for the visit because you missed it, even if it’s not your fault. You have to fill out another sick call form and wait however long it takes for another appointment. If it’s dental (similar to the real world) it could be months or even up to a year or more. They tell us we have to get a cleaning every six months, yet we…
