In Prison The Only Constant Is Change

Demeter and I knew better than to get comfortable with being able to see one another every couple of weeks. Yes, we enjoyed the few visits we were able to have.

Four to be exact.

The last visit we had, the Thursday before Thanksgiving, we had no idea would be our last in-person visit for a while. The following day, my tablet stopped working properly. I could make a phone call from it, but none of my messages would send.

That was my first clue something was amiss.

It wasn’t just me, a few other guys I know were having the same issue. Then, the rumor mill started. The word was, we were supposed to be moved, however, due to inclement weather in the mountains they delayed the move.

One thing you learn early on when you’re in the prison system is, you’re a mushroom. Left in the dark. Especially when it comes to where you’ll go next. You’re not even allowed to know when you are going to outside medical ahead of time. The day you go, you’re called down to medical in the prison where you reside, and you’re taken.

So it was no surprise to me to hear the rumor some of us would be moved back to the mountains. The only reason we got even a hint of a heads-up was…
