Why Can’t This Prison and GTL Get Our Video Visits On Track?

You’ll be happy to learn that after 12 weeks of not being able to video visit with Demeter, last Thursday, we finally got to have a visit. Kind of. Sort of. Let me explain.

The visit connected, which it’s done before, and we said hi and then kind of didn’t behave as if it had done anything special. You know, you don’t want to spook it, kind of like a wild animal. And you damn sure don’t really want to acknowledge that it’s been more than a few seconds, which is all we’ve gotten in the past. We kept talking but giving one another knowing looks like, “Shit! Is it really going to go past the amount of time we’ve gotten before? OMG, are we really getting our first visit in three months!!”

And then about five minutes in, I lost video on my end.

Motherfucker. Really? Of course, Demi tries to remain positive, at least she can still see me. At least we can still hear one another. Well, fuck, I can hear her daily when we talk on the phone. The point of a video visit is to see one another.

Don’t get me wrong, I am glad for two things. One, I got to see my beautiful wife for about five minutes. Two, she could look at my ugly mug for 15 minutes since she said that’s what she…
